Plein Air Workshop

With Kevin Scully

Kevin trained at Wimbledon School of Art in London and began his career as a scenic artist in the theatre and television. He then worked for many years as a successful illustrator in advertising and publishing, based in several London art and design studios. His commercial experience has enabled him to be able work in a diverse number of mediums, but he now paints primarily in watercolour, oils and pastels.

About Kevin and the tour

Kevin produces paintings that are mainly figurative, but at the same time strives to create a sense of the enigmatic and evocative. The subject matter is varied, and he focuses on choosing the less obvious viewpoints whilst avoiding the clichéd and overstated.

​Mood and atmosphere are his primary concerns whilst eliminating as much unnecessary detail as possible. The work he produces is mainly painted en plein air and is often used as the basis for larger studio-based works.

​This painting workshop in Croatia is one of many that Kevin has organized, spending time and energy to explain the brush strokes and importance of light, Kevin gives a great insight to his students throughout the week to help them improve and get the results they are looking for.

Towards the end of the workshop, all students will gather with some of their works for a constructive feedback session from him and the other students.

Here is an example itinerary of how you can expect your 7 days to go (this schedule is always subject to change) :

Tour members will fly into Dubrovnik Airport.

DAY -1

  1. Arrival day, Dinner and accomodation are included (transfer from airport not included)

DAY 1

  1. TOUR OF CAVTAT

  2. AFTERNOON PAINTING (main harbour)

DAY 2

  1. ISLAND OF LOKRUM (boat ride)

  2. MORNING PAINTING (olive tree park and monastery area)

  3. AFTERNOON PAINTING (dead sea area)

DAY 3

  1. PRIDVORJE/RIVER LJUTA

  2. MORNING PAINTING

  3. AFTERNOON PAINTING

DAY 4

  1. BOAT TO DUBROVNIK

  2. TOUR OF OLD TOWN (11am)

  3. DUBROVNIK (painting or free day)

  4. Last boat taxi back to Cavtat leaves at 6:30pm

DAY 5

  2. MORNING PAINTING (Hotel Croatia side)

  3. AFTERNOON PAINTING

DAY 6 

  1. ČILIPI FOLKLOR/TRANSFER
